Instig is a free extension that creates Instagram profile mockups for Figma at your request. It is published by Hive Horizon, reachable at [email protected].

Data used

After you click the extension, it reads the visible content of your selected Instagram profile: username, display name, bio, links, statistics, profile picture, story highlights, posts, image URLs and badges. This content may include names, photos and other personal information published by the account.

It reads the desktop header as editable text, shapes and images without taking a screenshot of the tab. Detected floating menus and mutual-follower sections are hidden during this read. Detection depends on Instagram’s layout: check the preview before sharing a mockup.

Designs you select on your device are read only to add them to the mockup. The extension does not browse your other files.

Processing and network connections

Mockup composition and clipboard preparation take place locally in your browser. The extension does not send this content to the publisher’s servers, sell it or use it for advertising tracking.

It contacts Meta’s image domains (cdninstagram.com and fbcdn.net) to download selected photos, without sending cookies in these requests. As with any connection to these services, their servers receive normal network information, including your IP address and the requested resource URL. Instagram use is also subject to Meta’s rules.

The copy button writes the mockup to the clipboard without reading its existing contents. The backup button creates a file on your device. If you paste or import the mockup into Figma, that content is processed by Figma under its own rules and those of your workspace.

Retention and deletion

Mockup data stays in the side panel’s memory. When you request a preview, the prepared mockup is transferred locally to an extension frame over the authorized Instagram tab, using extension messaging. No mockup data is sent to Instagram’s page scripts. Closing the preview releases its copy; closing Instig releases the sidebar’s copy.

While the panel is open, it detects URL changes within the current Instagram tab to refresh the selected profile. This navigation state is not saved as browsing history. Only layout and theme preferences, and your analytics choice with its random identifier if you accepted, are saved in the extension’s local storage. They are removed when you uninstall it. Your downloads, clipboard and Figma files remain under your control and must be deleted separately.

Usage analytics

Instig asks for your permission the first time you open the sidebar. Nothing is sent before you choose, and refusing changes nothing in how the extension works. You can change your choice at any time through Analytics preferences in the Instig sidebar. The legal basis for this measurement is your consent.

If you allow analytics, Instig sends two kinds of events: an opening of the sidebar and a successful copy for Figma. Each event contains the event name, the extension version, the layout (mobile or desktop) for copies, and a random installation identifier created when you accept. Instagram usernames, profile URLs, profile content, your uploaded designs and your clipboard are never included. Events are not linked to your name, email address or Instagram account.

The events are received by Hive Horizon through Umami, an open-source analytics tool that Hive Horizon hosts itself at umami.hivehorizon.com, on a Hetzner server in Germany, reached through Cloudflare. They are not shared with an advertising or third-party analytics service. As with any connection, these servers receive your IP address and browser User-Agent; Umami uses them to derive your country, browser and operating system and does not store your IP address. Events are kept for 12 months, then deleted.

Refusing or withdrawing consent deletes the identifier from your browser and stops all further events; events already received cannot be recalled by the extension. Your choice is remembered for 180 days, after which Instig asks again. For access or deletion requests about received events, contact [email protected].

Permissions

• activeTab and scripting: read and prepare the authorized profile tab after your click.
• Meta CDN access: download images needed for the mockup.
• clipboardWrite: copy content after you click the copy button.
• sidePanel: show Instig beside Instagram using Chrome’s native panel, so Instagram can adapt to its available viewport.
• storage: save preferences and the temporary capture.

The extension does not read passwords, request Instagram tokens, access your browsing history or monitor visited pages in the background.

The extension contains no advertising network or remotely loaded executable code. Usage analytics are sent only with your consent, as described above.

Limited use

Information obtained from your browsing is used exclusively to provide the mockup creation feature you trigger. It is not sold, transferred for unrelated purposes or used to determine creditworthiness or eligibility for credit. Data use complies with the Chrome Web Store’s Limited Use restrictions.
